About Me

Andrea Lani is a writer, a naturalist, and a mother of three boys. She received her BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic and her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine's Stonecoast MFA program. She worked as a public servant in the environmental field for more than fifteen years before leaving the security and drudgery of a cubicle and striking out on her own to pursue writing, nature, and the last few years of mothering full-time. She's also a Maine Master Naturalist Volunteer and Literary Reflections editor at Literary Mama.

During the summer of 2016, Andrea, her husband, and their three children, age 15, 11, and 11, hiked the 500-mile Colorado Trail, exactly 20 years after she and her husband first hiked the CT. She is now working on a book about the two hikes and the environmental and socioeconomic changes that have taken place in Colorado during that time.

In her fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, Andrea explores the connections between humans and nature, embraces the extremes of the motherhood experience, and confronts the emotional effects of environmental contamination. Her work has appeared in saltfront, Snowy EgretOrion, Brain, Child Magazine, and About Place Journal, among others. See more of Andrea's writing here.

Andrea teaches workshops in nature writing and nature journaling and provides content writing and editing services. To schedule a workshop or discuss a writing or editing project with Andrea, please use the contact form at the right or email her at andreaelani (at) yahoo (dot) com.
