Month of Poetry, 2014, Day 27: Serenity

Serenity

Out beyond the wet sand
and the line of lime-green
seaweed-covered rocks,
gently waves ripple
blue water reflecting blue sky.
Clouds drift by in big, cottony tufts.
A seagull sits on a rock.
It is a postcard picture
of serenity--the Maine cliche--
but for the three eight-year-olds
running around the beach
slaying orcs.
