Month of Poetry, Day 12

Carapace

You have to
become a
Turtle

To protect
your soft
Underbelly

From sharp blows
that leave you
Winded

You must
grow a
Shield

Hard, bony
Plates or
Spikes

There are
many designs to
Choose from

I chose a
mossy
Hump

Like a smooth
stone in the
River

Pull inside
everything that will
Fit

And when
anyone
Approaches

Stretch out your
serpentine
Neck

Hiss and snap
your powerful
Jaws
